Authors Ridge

My favorite stop along our trip from Boston to Concord was the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. We spent a bit of time on Author Ridge, the final resting place of Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau.

Emerson:

I desperately wanted to read this note left by Hawthorne’s grave. If it hadn’t been so intricately folded, I just might not have been able to resist myself.

The Thoreau family plot:

This was my favorite marker—I’d love to have a print of this shot hanging in my home, but I’m afraid it might feel a bit morbid. Thoughts?

More soon!

We had stopped here but it wasn’t nearly as fun. All these authors were still alive . . . .

Ha! This was one of my favorite stops when we went to Boston years ago.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Oh, and by the way, I totally think you can get away with hanging a print of Louisa May Alcott’s gravestone, but consider the source: I have a photo of W.B. Yeats’s gravestone in our bedroom as well as a photo of a road sign in Italy for “Via del Cimitero.”

I do recall that now, Laura! It’s the “Faithful in the last” marker I love, though–not Louisa’s.

Oh, it is beautiful. I think you should go for it. You could always put it in a bathroom where people have a little time to meditate : )
