Apple picking with A&O

Sometimes, I think we don’t shoot nearly enough video of the kids. And then I remember that no one wants to listen to the soundtrack bickering and complaining. Doesn’t it look far more idyllic in the still image?

Bec: “Ava, you are delirious.”

Ava: “Is that the opposite of hilarious?”

Little Miss Attitude

Lately, Olivia has taken to expressing her discontent by stating simply but sharply: “Hate it.” It cracks me up every time, which only further annoys her.

Eventually, she relents and cracks a smile…

Even though the attitude on this one causes me quite a bit of consternation, it really is one of my favorite things about her.

Grilled pizza

We’ve had grilled pizza about once a week this summer, primarily focusing on fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Bryan had an idea for a more seasonal pie, based on a incredible pasta dish at our favorite restaurant: ricotta, Italian sausage, roasted butternut squash, parmesan and fresh rosemary. It might be the best pizza we’ve had so far!

Ava Fix

Second grade is going well—Ava’s working on a short story at school, and she’s teaching herself cursive handwriting at home. She’s making a few new friends and will host her first sleepover on Friday night.

A task list of a different sort

Lately, our lives are governed by task lists—things to pack each day, chores to complete, errands to run. I decided we needed a to-do list a bit less serious in nature . . .

Owen Fix

Overheard: Not very convincing there, Liv.

Olivia, while watching How to Train Your Dragon: “I’m not even scared, Ava. …Are you?”
