Katie & Tom’s rehearsal dinner

Katie and Tom were married on June 8, 2013 at the charming Praire Creek Inn, just outside of Lincoln, Nebraska. The stone house below (relocated from Lincoln about 12 years ago), was our home for the weekend.

The barn served as the venue for Friday night’s rehearsal dinner.

We spent Friday afternoon setting up the decorations that Mom and Katie designed, enjoying gorgeous, sunny weather.

A bucket full of Sam, for our Boston-bred groom.

Tom’s family traveled from thousands of miles away to join in the festivities.

Ours came from a few miles down the road…

Katie planned to have the ceremony on the prairie below the big stone house (though the weather ultimately necessitated otherwise). The flower girls enjoyed picking daisies as we rehearsed.

Here comes the bride! You can also see the tent in the background here–it held both the ceremony and the reception on Saturday.

Following the rehearsal, Tom’s parents welcomed friends and family for dinner. It was a great crowd, and we had a fantastic time that evening.

Following dinner, we took a hayrack ride to the nearby pond to roast s’mores.

Katie planned a great evening, and we were lucky to have been part of it.

A&O Fix

The ice went out a mere five weeks ago, and the water temperature is a chilly 66 degrees in Little Birch Lake. Perfect swimming conditions…if you happen to be eight and five.

Country roads, take me home…

…to Nebraska, of course, but also back to Kansas, and then to Dallas and Houston, followed by a little trip up north through Missouri, Iowa and into Minnesota…

Six states in as many days have left me a bit behind. I have a lot to share about Katie and Tom’s wedding, and a few other fun things from recent weeks. In the meantime, here are a few shots from last week in the Cornhusker State. More soon!

Much love to my dad, Grampa Great, Grandpa Dankleff, my stepdad Dave and my father-in-law Doug!

Keeping in touch

This summer has brought a bit of business travel for me, and while a quiet hotel room is most certainly a luxury every now and then, I do find myself missing my sweet family. I’m grateful for opportunities to video chat with Owen and the girls, but receiving this email as I wait to board a flight in Dallas just made my whole day.

Eleven months!

IMG_6148

At eleven months, Owen is EVERYWHERE. Yesterday alone, I found him rearranging the printer cables, tasting the cat’s food, heading into the garage via the kitchen door, and gleefully splashing in the toilet. Keep in mind, it wasn’t as though he was left entirely to his own devices for long periods of time; it’s just that this kid is fast. And sort of naughty, it would appear.

He’s crawling and cruising, but when I suggested to Diane he was close to walking, she pointed out that he wasn’t standing flat-footed quite yet. So, we may have a bit more time to do some much-needed baby proofing.

Owen is still a very happy little guy, but he’s getting a bit more demanding. He knows what he wants, and it’s usually more food, and RIGHT NOW. He’s a bottomless pit, eating everything we put in front of him. He loves peas, apples, steak, yogurt and especially anything with tomato sauce.

He’s convinced there’s absolutely nothing worse than getting dressed, and nothing better than flopping around on his belly in the bathtub. He goes to sleep effortlessly by 7:30 pm most nights, and loves to wake with the sun. He adores his sisters, especially when they push him in the swing outside.

Owen mimics so much of what we say to him, and has clearly repeated cracker, bird, tree, fast, all done, and, perhaps most notably,  Katie.  I can only assume he’ll be saying “grandma” by week’s end.
