Owen plays peekaboo by covering just part of his face and averting his gaze for just a moment. I think it’s the cutest thing ever, though I realize I’m not terribly objective.

Just add water
When Ava was a baby, she had an unusually fussy day while we were visiting Gramma and Grampa Great’s house. Gramma suggested a bath might help, and kindly offered her kitchen sink. The moment Ava’s toes hit the water, she calmed down. This trick is one that works well–in fact, it was a warm shower that brought Ava back from the brink of a meltdown last night after a too-long playdate in the country. (In hindsight, I should have tried one for both us a couple hours later…)
Last weekend, when Owen was struggling with an ear infection, eczema outbreak and four(!) new top teeth, we plopped our cranky baby in the kitchen sink. It worked beautifully, Gramma!

Owen at eight months
Owen reached the eight month mark on Sunday. No longer content to sit and snuggle, this baby is on the move. I sat him on the landing of the staircase to shoot a few photos of his new tricks, and it didn’t take long for him to express an interested in climbing down the stairs.
In addition to that supercute clapping below, Owen’s bobbing his head to music, doing a bit of “singing” of his own, sleeping soundly for at least 11 hours each night, and keep us pretty entertained the rest of the time.
See this off-camera gaze? All of his attention is focused on his sisters, who do their best to keep Owen happy and smiling. As it turns out, he might the one who is smitten now.
I love this little guy so much. I feel very fortunate to be his mama!

Owen update
The last few days have been pretty big on the Owen front—in addition to figuring out how to clap (which may be the cutest thing I’ve seen in quite a long time), our seven-and-a-half month old now has full command of the area around him. He’s becoming proficient at the army crawl, and is spending more and more time on all fours. Nothing is safe! Also, I’m expecting those two top teeth to appear at any moment. This baby is growing up far too fast, but each little milestone is so much fun.
Doug took this photo when he was visiting last weekend, and I just love it so much. More soon!

Overheard
Bryan, to Owen: “You look like Winston Churchill this morning.”
Bec: “What? If anyone, he looks like Hitchcock.”
