Ours are, too – the tree peonies are especially beautiful this year – one of my favorite plants, especially since the deer do not like them – we actually get to enjoy them blooming every year!
Your Great-Grandpa Stolz always worried about the time of bloom of the peonies. He and Grandma used them to decorate graves for Memorial Day. They had a row of peonies one-fourth of a block long along their vegetable garden. Do you remember those and the black-eyed susans? I have one peony from that row — a white one that survived a late July transplant from our Lincoln house — and it is getting ready to burst with blooms.
