My Other Girl

Blackberry Sangria

Sangria is quickly becoming my favorite summer drink. While a recipe isn’t really necessary, these are the basic ratios I’ve found particularly tasty.

Blackberry Sangria

Add blackberries, raspberries, sliced strawberries, sliced apples and sliced peaches to a pitcher and stir in:

750 ml red wine

1/2 cup blackberry brandy

1/2 cup triple sec

1 cup orange juice

Serve over ice and and top with club soda.

When the pitcher runs low, just add more wine!

Family Fix

Memorial Day at the Lake

We spent the long weekend at Mom and Dave’s house on the Harlan County Lake, enjoying the abundant sunshine, time with family, homemade sangria, games of golf and fishing trips, and days of pure relaxation. It would have been the perfect weekend trip if it had only lasted a few days longer.

Olivia Fix

Olivia had a second set of tubes put in her ears this morning. She wasn’t even 18 months old the first time around, but by that point, she’d had almost continuous ear infections. We had a year and a half without any trouble at all. Eight months ago, the tubes worked themselves out. In that time, she’s had an additional four ear infections, and accumulated fluid was making it difficult for her to hear.

Needless to say, the second set was a relatively easy decision, and she did very well during the amazingly quick surgery this morning. Aside from a bit of crabbiness this afternoon, she’s recovered nicely.

At the lake

This time of year, I want to spend as much time by the water as possible. Bryan suggested a picnic at Clinton Lake the weekend before last, and we were met with gorgeous weather and an even better view.
