Rollercoaster (of love…?)

Here is Olivia’s latest art project – a mini rollercoaster, complete with twists, turns and–notably–fire.

When I inquired as to the terrified rider, she told me, “That’s you, Mom!” Rather than link to the supporting evidence, I will just share the artist’s rendering…

Happy 10th, Ava!

Ava had a nearly month-long birthday celebration (with more to come) for her 10th year. Double-digits are a big deal for kids, and this felt like a real milestone from my perspective, too. Ten years! Ten.

We began with angel food cake at my mom’s early in the month, a family tradition I’m so glad she carries forward.

On the 24th, we bookended the occasion with blueberry pancakes and dinner with Tom and Katie.

For the first time, my number cookies weren’t numbers.

Then, last Saturday, the main event: a pop star party and sleepover for six friends, with Taylor Swift karaoke, a whole of fun and very, very little sleep.

Happy birthday, Ava! I can’t wait to see what the next decade brings.

Bryan fix

With bonus Owen.

The fix

Olivia, to Owen, after he expressed serious concern over what must be a relatively new sensation: “You know what gets rid of hiccups? This!”

Give and take

Olivia made this sweet sign at school. My favorite is “forts,” because some days you just need a hideout.

Overheard

Rebecca: “Owen, come over here. I want to tell you how cute and little you are.”

Owen: “I’m poopy.”

Ten!

Ava Kate celebrated her 10th birthday yesterday. Thanks so much for the sweet calls and messages from near and far–much appreciated! More on this occasion very soon…

Olivia Fix

I had some pleasant company on my Saturday walk: a sweet girl who reported that Gramma taught her to double-knot her shoes, and that she is indeed a very fast runner. “Almost as fast as Kyle,” for those of you keeping track.

Smith family fix

Overheard

Ava, from the back of the man van: “Wait! I’m not bickily-bucked!”

Bryan: “Is everyone buckled up?”

Ava: “No! What do you think ‘bickily-buck’ means?!”

Owen, to Uncle Tom: “My shirt glows in the dark. Your shirt doesn’t. Your shirt is broken.”
