Had a little help with dinner prep last night. (It’s FINE, Mom. I promise!)

Merry Christmas!

And, now, Happy New Year, too–from our house to yours. I hope you enjoyed the holiday (and the break) as much as we did!

Happy holidays!

Christmas pup

Our yellow dog is settling in, growing bigger with every passing day. He’s not quite as calm as he was when we brought him home this time last month (and he’s developed an unfortunate liking for high heels), but he’s sweet with the kids and pretty darn cute.

Owen Fix

THREE!

Owen celebrated his third birthday at the Minnesota cabin with Gramma and Grampa Great and Aunt Katie and Uncle Tom.

The theme was set to his current obsession: heavy machinery and construction work. (I had a hard time keeping those front loaders and dump trucks on the cake long enough to snap a photo!)

Aunt Katie bought Owen a drum! And a kazoo. And a tambourine. She’s the best.

A Thomas the Train piggy bank from Uncle Tom, which Owen carries around while yelling, “Oink! Snort!”

And another quick favorite, a “tiny train” from Gramma and Grampa. IMG_3703

Thanks to the Grandparents Great for hosting! We are looking forward to mini-celebrations with family in Nebraska and Colorado as well.

Overheard: Owen’s vacation edition

A growing compendium…

Owen: “I need some sunscream. I’m in my swimsoup.”

As the sun went under a cloud: “What’s happening?! The sun is broken!”

“I’m sad because I can’t be naked.”

In response to his sisters’ requests to swim out a bit futher: “It’s nice RIGHT HERE.” (Right by the dock, where I hope he never leaves.)

“Where are my girls?”

In response to this catch: “NONONONONONO.”

And to this little bird at the Freeport zoo: “Oh, you’re so cute.”

Every morning this week: “It’s my birthday today!”

Overheard: Gramma edition

Gramma: “Oh, Owen. What did we do before we had you?”

Olivia: “Well, we sat around and watched TV and cared more about me than Owen.”
