…to Nebraska, of course, but also back to Kansas, and then to Dallas and Houston, followed by a little trip up north through Missouri, Iowa and into Minnesota…
Six states in as many days have left me a bit behind. I have a lot to share about Katie and Tom’s wedding, and a few other fun things from recent weeks. In the meantime, here are a few shots from last week in the Cornhusker State. More soon!

This month has brought a number of reasons for us to be happy—and busy. As I mentioned below, we have three temporary houseguests – my sister Katie, her fiancé Tom, and their cat Sophie. I still cannot believe that they have decided to move to Lawrence – I really could not be happier. They will be staying with us until they move into their own place after they return from their honeymoon in mid-June.
Of course, the wedding precedes that – and in just a week and a couple of days, they will get married on the prairie in Nebraska. As the matron of honor, I have a number of happy tasks associated with the preparations. Somehow, I lucked out – they all align with my hobbies. In the next week, I will make a large, multi-tiered cake, five dozen cupcakes, and a number of small design projects for the wedding. I also have a toast to write, and I’m doing my best not to put that off until the night before.
My task list pales in comparison to those around me – Katie’s, of course, is enormous. And, my mom and Dave have been working hard for months. The girls have gorgeous, handmade flowergirl dresses awaiting them, and our tiny ringbearer has a little bowtie and cummerbund. I neglected to lose the 20 pounds I had set out to, but while my dress doesn’t look exactly as I’d hoped, I am absolutely thrilled that I’ll have the opportunity to stand next to my sister next Saturday.
Katie has created an amazing event–
every detail is incredibly thoughtful, and I am genuinely looking forward to the time spent with family.

We’ve hustled across the state line many times in the last few weeks, for occasions both happy and sad. It’s left us grateful for additional time spent with our families, but also a bit rundown and generally behind at home. So, when we woke early on Sunday morning, we set to work on responsibilities shirked in the many days prior. Thankfully, there was a reward come late afternoon…

I know it’s hip to hate on Valentine’s Day, but it’s easily one of my favorite holidays. It’s hard not to appreciate a day (or, in our case, a few weeks) that allows for pink crafts, sweet treats and unabashed expressions of love. Here are a few of the projects we’ve completed this month in celebration. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Year after year, January seems to bring a renewed attempt to organize our home. I didn’t make resolutions this year, but I did commit to staying on top of household tasks. Some days, their sheer size of the operation is overwhelming, but little by little, I feel like I’m reclaiming some order.
I cleaned out my closet, packing up about 30 pieces of clothing for Goodwill, and remarkably, it’s still well organized nearly two weeks later. I’m also determined to wash, fold and put away a load of laundry each day, which should free up several hours come Sunday.
I’m not alone in this endeavor. In fact, Bryan is working far more diligently. He’s completely revamped the storage in the basement, and his tool bench is beautifully organized . . . and labeled.
Last night, I noticed he’d also labeled the deep freeze downstairs, just in case there’s any confusion. I can only assume the baby will be next.

Perhaps not the kind you’d expect . . . these lotion bars are made from coconut oil, beeswax and olive oil.
I started using coconut oil as a moisturizer for Owen when he first struggled with eczema. His dermatologist ultimately wasn’t on board with that plan, but I’ve continued to use it myself in place of lotion ever since. Coconut oil is a solid that melts at body temperature, and I thought a bar would be a bit less messy. My mom sent me the original recipe, which recommended three parts beeswax to two parts coconut and olive oils, but that resulted in a bar that’s a bit too hard for my liking. Next time, I’ll reduce the beeswax by at least half (and take the recipes’s suggestion to add a bit of essential oil for scent).

Bec: “Let’s run away. Just you and me. Away from all of this chaos, all of this noise. We can just be together in peace.”
Owen: [Smiles, grunts, farts.]
Bec: “I’ll take that as a yes.”
