No love lost

Olivia LOVES Dagny. Can’t get enough of her. Dagny will tolerate Ava, but she is just not on board when it comes to this new (and very mobile) baby.

Liv doesn’t seem to mind, and shares her affections with abandon.

It’s a good lesson in cause and effect.

Family Day

For the second year in a row, I brought my own family with me to the university’s Family Day. If you have to work on a Saturday, this is a nice way to do it.

Quilt Weekend Wrap-Up

A week later, I’m finally posting photos from the quilting weekend I had with my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law in Nebraska last weekend.

Thanks to Doug, Bryan, Jason and Josh, the kids were completely entertained allowing Karyl, Jess, Debbie, Laura and me to focus on quilting (and wine).

First, the kids. They guys took Ava, Olivia, Leo and Wyatt to the new play structures at the botanical gardens and to the children’s museum.

I hear the big kids had a great time, and despite appearances, the babies were good, too.

It does look Olivia was trying to call me, though.

Back at Smiths, we worked late into the night on various projects. I was thrilled to find that I wasn’t the only one who still had work to do on the quilt I started at last year’s retreat. All in all, though, we made progress on a number of projects.

Laura has better shots of our work over on The House on Hudson, but here’s a quick look at a project I’m working on for Olivia’s room.

It was a wonderful weekend–one that we’re hoping to repeat again soon. Thanks to Doug and Karyl for a lovely time, and to the guys for keeping the kids so happily entertained.

Ava at Nine Months

Liana’s request has sparked a debate in our house. Does Olivia look like Ava? What do you think?

Livie Love

Olivia has become quite affectionate lately. I’m sure this sweet phase will last mere minutes, so I’m trying to steal as many “hugs” as possible.

Labor Day Weekend

We took a little trip to Mom and Dave’s house this weekend. We were only there for a few days, but we still had time to watch a few storms roll by…

…and play endless games with Gramma…

…and Papa.

We baked cookies…

…were completely spoiled…

…spent time outside…

and ate delicious grilled meals.

We also checked out the local wildlife…

…played a round of golf…

…chatted with Aunt Katie over the phone…

…and watched 40 mph winds whip the lake into a frenzy.

It was a great weekend!

The best doctor’s advice ever

I took Olivia in for her nine month well baby check this morning. She weighed in at 22 pounds and 12 ounces, putting her in the 98th percentile. She was 29 inches long, which is the 96th percentile, so at least she’s proportionate!

Our doctor was surprised to hear that she’s still waking up twice at night to eat. She suggested that perhaps she was just nursing for comfort, as she was to a point where she should be able to go quite a few hours without eating. With this in mind, she said that I should avoid getting up with her, and instead, have Bryan offer her a cup of thawed milk. Eventually, she’ll decide that since she’s not getting what she really wants, it won’t be worth getting up.

Obviously, I think this is fantastic. I’m sure my already sleep-deprived husband believes I cooked this scheme up on my own. In fact, I joked about needing a signed affidavit to prove this was legitimate.

In reality, though, I probably won’t go through with this plan. Eventually, she’ll figure it out, right?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go put Ava back in bed for the 47th time.

Overheard

Me: Why does Olivia want you to hold her all the time?

Bry (tossing the baby in the air, literally): Because I do cool stuff.

Me: Really? Do you lactate?

Hats off

Let’s hope Olivia doesn’t inherit her father’s hat hair.

Another Olivia Fix

Some of these shots are a little soft, but subject is pretty sweet.
