More fun at Gramma’s
These photos come courtesy of my mom, who was busy entertaining my children while I napped this weekend.

The girls played in the sprinkler and wading pool, and went for many walks with my mom. They came across a sailboat down the lane that Ava found particularly interesting.

Dave whipped this slide platform out the evening before we arrived. Olivia spent most of the weekend perched at the top, trying to give Mom a heart attack.

And speaking of Olivia, my mom tried to get a photo of her next to the shrub that was planted in her honor.

Really, if you want her to pose, it’s going to cost you a snow cone. Flavoring optional.

A weekend at the lake
Mom and Dave welcomed us for a short visit this weekend. As always, we made the most of the peaceful locale: we played golf, slept in, took long naps and let Mom handle Olivia’s 2 am wake up calls. Mom and Dave spoiled us–not only with round-the-clock childcare–but with fabulous food and a gorgeous view.

We’ll be back soon!

Troublesome teething toddler

For the past few days, our normally sweet toddler has been holding us captive, torturing us with her most powerful tool of terror: sleep deprivation. Instead of snoozing soundly for 11 hours a night, she’s waking multiple times, screaming so loudly I’m surprised we haven’t had a visit from the city police. Apparently, she’s cutting two-year molars just a bit ahead of schedule.
By 2 am this morning, we reached a breaking point. I went to Walgreens and bought every teething-related product they sold. I covered all possible bases, from the extra strength Ora-Gel to the homeopathic teething tablets. Â Nothing worked—not even the normally helpful Motrin/Tylenol cocktail. I’d guess we got about four hours of sleep between the three of us.
I took her to the doctor this morning, practically begging the doctor to find something wrong with her that could be effectively medicated. No such luck, but the doctor did suggest Benadryl to help her sleep. “One half teaspoon for Olivia,” she said. “Four teaspoons for mom and dad.”
I don’t think that will be necessary for us, but I am counting down the minutes until Olivia’s eyes become droopy.

More Minnesota
We arrived in Minnesota just a day ahead of the famous Ward Springs Fourth of July Parade, at which parade participants hand out candy and beer. We had the good fortunate of sitting next to Gramma and Grampa’s neighbors, Rex and Linda.

The last half of the parade is just a bit wet…

We took a number of boat rides–Ava even got to drive!

Gramma and Grampa kept us full with fabulous food the entire time. Gramma and Ava made homemade ice cream with Ava’s great, great grandfather’s hand-crank ice cream maker.

We took a day trip to the state forest nearby, and had lunch at a cute little tea house called Just Like Grandma’s.

Katie celebrated her birthday with a little help, too.

And, of course, there was liberal spoiling of the grandchildren and great grandchildren!
