Olivia Fix

I bought a soft grey cardigan this weekend. Olivia swiped it from my shopping bag and claimed it as her own. She’s been toting it around like a (fourth) blanket. I just might have to get another one for me!

Tis the Season

Saturday morning, we bundled up and headed downtown for the annual old fashioned Christmas parade.

We’ve attended the last four of the parade’s 17-year run. As far as Ava is concerned, this is the start of the season, and it is serious business.

Tom joined us, too.

The parade began with a fly over:

Next up, about 100 entries, all horses and horse-drawn carriages.

Ava loved the carriage with Santa.

Bryan’s favorite:

Olivia loved all of them. She squealed with delight every time a horse came into view.

Every. Single. Time.

That was definitely my favorite part!

There’s nothing like the smell of a fresh lovie in the morning.

Olivia’s party

We had a farm-themed “barnyard brunch” at my grandparents’ house in Nebraska for Olivia’s birthday on Saturday morning. Bryan’s parents and sister Jessica attended, as did my mom, step-dad and of course, Gramma and Grampa Great.

Ava helped Olivia open her presents. (And by “helped,” I mean “opened every single one for her while Olivia carefully examined and sometimes tried on the gift she just received.”)

Guess who sent this card…

That’s right! It’s “frum Ava.”

Bryan made us bloody marys, and we had quiche, fresh fruit and sausage for breakfast.

There was cake, too…more photos of that coming tomorrow.

Happy birthday, Baby O!

Thanks to everyone who joined us, and to those who sent kind messages from afar. We appreciate it!

Make a wish!

Doug sent these photos from the party on Saturday. More tomorrow!

Olivia Lou is two!

Happy birthday, Olivia.  Seems like just yesterday

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are fortunate to be spending the holiday weekend with our family, and we will celebrate Olivia’s second birthday on Saturday. In advance of the party, here’s a quick fix:

I hope you, too, have a holiday filled with the things that make you the happiest. In Liv’s case, that would be the pacifier I yanked from her mouth right before taking this photo.

Odds and ends

A&O Fix

Olivia!

Lately, Olivia’s test driving two with tantrums, talking back and actions that are pretty far outside her normal realm.

For instance, bedtime has become a bit of battle. Normally, I read a book, sing a couple of songs, rock for a bit, then put her down without so much as a whimper.

She’s clearly to an age where she realizes there’s more exciting things going on downstairs come 8 pm. The past week or two, Olivia stands up before she even hits the mattress and launches babies or books (or pacifiers) at my head as I close the door. She has an amazing aim, but that’s another post.

Most nights, though, she settles down once I place all of her accouterments back in her crib.

Last night, I heard her laughing and calling for me. I opened her door and found her wearing only a grin.

She was stark naked in her crib—her pajamas and diaper tossed out on to the floor—and she was quite pleased with herself.

She said, “I need a diaper change.”

Apparently.
