Overheard

Olivia: “Mom, I just used this towel to dry off the cat. It’s not very dirty, so I’ll just put it back in the drawer for you.”

Olivia Fix

We’re beating the heat today by swimming at my friend Sherry’s house. It’s been a perfect way to spend a blistering hot afternoon.

Overheard

All day Sunday, Olivia asked me to cut the tag from the haunch of a stuffed white rabbit. This isn’t a new find, but this bunny has become increasingly popular with Liv lately—he even joined us at a matinee showing of Brave on Saturday.

Olivia had to remind me of this task a few times over the course of the day, and when I finally obliged, I pulled out the scissors and asked her hand me her bunny. She turned him over to me, shielded her eyes, and yelled:

“I CAN’T WATCH.”

Thankfully, the bunny made it.

Most favorite parent status

I might not be the parent who buys Lucky Charms (or SERVES IT FOR DINNER…), but I’m not above a bit of pandering with an early pick up and frozen yogurt on a hot summer day.

Redeeming Qualities

I woke up to find myself in a rather crowded bed this morning. As I rolled over several stuffed animals to see exactly what was taking up so much space, my sweet Olivia–eyes still closed–threw an arm over my shoulder and whispered, “You’re the best mom ever.”

Well this really hits the nail on the head…

Every Monday, I receive “Your Preschooler This Week,” an online newsletter that addresses issues faced by parents of four year olds. I usually skim and delete, but the following box near the bottom caught my eye. These particular topics are frighteningly accurate…

Memorial Day at the Lake

Livie’s lost tooth

Olivia lost her first tooth tonight. At four and a half years, she’s certainly a bit young, but our dentist says it’s within the realm of normal. She’s been quite excited about the whole thing, and tonight she let me pluck it out with a bit of floss after her bath. Thankfully, this went slightly better than my first attempt.

No tears–just a big smile!

She’s taking her tooth to school tomorrow, then she’ll tuck it in her tooth fairy pillow tomorrow night.

Big sister to be

I just found one of Livie’s “lovies” in the crib–I thought Olivia would be a fantastic big sister, but I never guessed her generosity would reach this level. I hope that holds true once this new baby is born.

Balancing act

We’re trying to balance busy work and life schedules this week, but I do have some photos to share from Memorial Day weekend and a few other happy occasions. The posts may not be frequent, but I’ll do my best in the coming days!
