Hunkering down

The shopping’s done, the decorations are up, and our phones are charging . . . we’re ready for what promises to be a VERY white Christmas. After a thick shellac of ice, snow is beginning to fall.

If the power lines hold tomorrow, there will be plenty of baking (as well as snowmen and snow angels). If not, we’ll hope for it’s quick return, not to mention clear roads. Katie, Tom and Tom’s parents are here, but we are awaiting a few other very important guests to kick off this merry holiday. Much love from our home to yours!

Sixth birthday roundup

We celebrated Olivia’s sixth birthday in Nebraska the day after Thanksgiving. Many thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Smith for hosting. I’ll share a few photos of our party guests, then share shots of the birthday girl and the party details. More soon!

Halloween parade

The girls had a Halloween parade at school last week. There were so many incredibly creative costumes–a great tin man, a cute little Dorothy, Wii Miis, and a tiny, little old lady with an “I brake for bingo” sign on her walker. Here are two of my favorites, though…

I’m also pretty enamored with these spectators.

Ava Fix

Ava was looking for a book she was just sure we had. She was right, as it turns out—and we’ve had it for quite a long time, it would appear!

Doug and Owen Douglas

We found this cute photo of Owen and his grandpa as we looked at pictures of the kids last night. We’re having a great time in Boston, but we are really missing the littles. (There are THREE of them, a tired Aunt Katie keeps reminding me.)

Grampa Great

We spent Labor Day welcoming overnight guests, hosting a party for friends, carting kids to gymnastics and a birthday celebration, and THEN driving to my mom’s for what was left of the long weekend. While the visit was short, it was indeed sweet. Olivia especially appreciated some time with Grampa Great (who, I think it’s safe to say, is even more beloved than that favorite, raggedy blanket).

Happy birthday, Aunt Katie!

Katie celebrated her 32nd birthday in Kansas, starting with a Friday night dinner downtown with me and Bryan, and ending with birthday (carrot!) cake at our house Sunday evening. In between, Tom took her to downtown Kansas City and the Country Club Plaza. I would have posted this photo earlier, but I’ve been too busy hanging out with my sister. WHO LIVES IN KANSAS. Surreal!
