And, four.

Somehow, Owen is four. I know–I don’t understand it either, because it seems impossible for time to pass this quickly (and, honestly, it’s a bit cruel).

We celebrated with a Star Wars party–my first liscensed character party after successfully negotiating otherwise exactly 22 times. (Owen has yet to see Star Wars, but that doesn’t bother him in the least).

This baby of mine is sweet and funny, spirited and stubborn. He breaks my heart a million times a week with his innocent questions and unrelenting love. He’s easy to adore–it helps that our patience seems to grow exponentially with every passing year.

He is kind and affectionate, but also boisterous and impatient. He loves “the sisters” and August, and he would follow Bryan to the ends of the earth. It is truly impossible to imagine what our family would be like without him–to imagine what I would be like without him.

I love this kid.

With a little baby bonus…

Gramma’s house

We spent Memorial Day weekend at my mom’s, and the kids had a great time fishing with their dad and Papa Best.

60 years

My amazing grandparents marked their 60th wedding anniversary last week, and to celebrate, their daughters pulled all 21 members of our family together for a weekend on the Platte River in Nebraska. It was truly a great time, and I’m really looking forward to what I think should probably be an annual celebration. Thanks, Mom and Janet, and much love to you, Gramma and Grampa Great!

Snuggle up

I really like this new little guy quite a lot. And his parents are knocking it out of the park. Good job, Team Pasniewski.

Overheard

Owen: “Mommy, why are babies so small? Was I this small?”

Way to shatter my whole heart, kid. ❤️

Mother’s Day

Thanks to Katie’s good timing, we got to spend Mother’s Day with my mom. Bryan made us brunch on the deck, with mimosas, stuffed scallops, eggs, fruit and *three* kinds of meat. He’s the best.

It was fun to have my mom here this week (no one appreciated it more than the very new mom, I’m sure). I really think she should move closer. Like to Kansas. Or maybe next door. Or actually into my own home.

Love you, Mom!

Welcome, Baby Ryan!

Katie and Tom welcomed Ryan Henry late Friday night. He weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz, and he is, as Owen keeps saying, “so tiny.” Also, very cute.

Four generations!

Nashville roundup

I have a few more photos to share from the trip I took with my mom and the girls over spring break. Truly can’t wait to plan a return!

Olivia’s favorite stop (perhaps second only to Tennesee’s state museum) was Antique Archelogy, which is featured on her dad’s top show, American Pickers.

We also stopped by Vanderbilt (class of 2029, perhaps…?).

And, is any Smith family girls trip complete without a stop to see were Taylor lives? No. Definitely not.

We spent a lot of time touring around town on the trolley – it was a fun way to see Music Row and a lot of other stops as well.

Our second night in town, we visited Rippy’s on Broadway. The young guy manning the stage that night brought around the tip bucket and asked for requests. Of course, the girls requested T. Swift, so I tossed in a $10, knowing it was probably a bit outside of his standard playbook. Not only did he deliver, he asked the girls to come on stage and sing with him.

Ava was willing but reserved; Olivia completely let loose on a cover of Blank Space. This was easily my favorite moment of the trip, and I bet my mom doesn’t disagree.

The next day, I took the girls on a tour of a distillery, like all good mothers are known to do. They did abstain from the whiskey tasting though, because it wasn’t even noon.

I really enjoyed traveling with the girls, and especially my mom. Can’t wait for fall break!
