Spring storms

I’ve managed to be out of the state for the first three big storms of the season. I caught a few photos of a small thunderstorm that passed just south of us last week.

Overheard

Rebecca, to Olivia’s daycare provider Diane, upon examining Olivia’s first bee sting: “Oh my goodness–her finger is so swollen!”

Diane: “Actually the sting is on her other hand.”

Rebecca: “Wow, those are some chubby fingers you’ve got there, Liv.”

For the record, no ill effects from the bee sting!

More Madison

For my first of 36 hours in Madison, I joined Alisa, Melissa and Lori for a cruise around Lake Monona. We had a great time downtown, and then Melissa treated us to a stay at the Hilton. We had brunch the next morning and parted ways far too soon.

Linden and Liana

DSC09190

Linden is an incredibly sweet baby, and Liana is such a calm and happy mom. They seem perfectly suited to each other.

If you need a more regular Linden fix, you can check out more pictures of this cute little guy over on the Lamont family blog.

Another reason to visit Madison…

I made a quick trip up to Madison this weekend to meet its newest resident, Linden.

May flowers

I planted several flowers before Ava’s birthday, but they succumbed to a late frost. I finally managed to plant a few new things this weekend, thanks to Gramma Great, who provided many new pots, and to Ava, who helped quite a bit!

Birds in our backyard

In the last two weeks we had yellow warblers, Nashville warblers, and yellow-rumped warblers traveling through and a few more I couldn’t identify. A rose-breasted grosbeak arrived yesterday at the feeders and was here tonight. Two house wrens have occupied our wren house recently. We’ve had a few brown thrashers near our garden.

Also, scissor-tailed flycatchers have arrived outside where I work.

The dark-eyed juncos and white throated sparrows have moved on.

Balancing work and play

My mom and Dave came this weekend to watch the girls while Bryan and I went to a concert in Kansas City. The timing of their trip was perfect, though, because Dave was able to help Bryan assemble the play set we gave Ava for her birthday, and Mom helped me prepare for a big event I had last night.

Bryan and Dave assembled most of the swing set in the garage Friday night, and took it outside Saturday morning. Dave said it was pretty easy to assemble, but Bry thought it would have taken him four days if he’d had to do it without Dave’s help. Ava and Olivia were relieved it was done in a matter of hours!

Mom took a few shots along the way, too, and she captured Dave showing Ava how to make the slide perfectly slippery (Pledge!). Olivia had a blast flying down it as well.
