More sweets!

Sweets from the sweet

Ava decorated her own sugar cookies to take for her Valentine’s Day party. She did a great job–all by herself!

She insisted on wearing the Valentine’s Day pajamas that Gramma Great gave her to preschool, despite having to pull hers of the hamper when Livie Lou Who’s matching (and clean) size twos wouldn’t fit. They looked reasonably clean, and I convinced her to wear just the top with jeans.

Be mine

Ava and I made homemade valentines for her party at preschool today. We had a great time, though I wonder what she’ll think when she realizes she could have had a box of commercially produced Dora cards instead of these. She’ll appreciate the quality time with mom, right? Hmmm. Here’s hoping.

Now here’s something…

I am probably one of the few who is embarking upon, and actually looking forward to, several hours of baking on Wednesday and Thursday night. (These nights will follow what will likely be two unusually busy 13-hour work days, though in all fairness, the days would be shorter if I’d quit blogging and start working…)

But, Valentine’s Day comes but once a year, and while it’s never hard for me to find an excuse to bake, this day is too good to be cast aside due to a schedule that’s more hectic than normal.

So, while I prepare for a board meeting, an event and a presentation to the entire staff–all of which will happen within 24 on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning–my mom sent me this article.

I love my job–honestly, I do. But there’s a small part of me that wonders if there isn’t something else out there, too. The idea of renting a commercial kitchen a few nights a week–maybe one with a small play area just for the kids–is incredibly tempting. Could it be the best of both worlds? Could I manage?

The next two days might help me determine that.

Overheard

Mom: Ava, bring that back here right now.

Ava: …

Mom: Five, four, THREE…

Ava (running): Here, Mom.

Mom: Thank you.

Ava: I’m sorry that you had to say all but two numbers, but that’s just the way life goes sometimes.

Weekend baking

I made a batch of Ina Garten’s peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies for Bryan’s friend Dave this weekend. As I’ve come to expect with any Ina recipe, they were delicious–even better when just a tad under baked.

The Grandparents Great

Gramma and Grampa Great came for a visit this weekend, staying just long enough to thoroughly spoil the girls (and their parents, too!).

We were all sad to see them go, but some of us handled it better than others.

Two for one: An Ava and Olivia fix

The girls are wearing the cute pink scarves my boss knitted for them over the holidays. They don’t need them today–it’s 70 degrees–but I’m guessing we haven’t seen the end of winter weather quite yet.
