Me: Ava, we need to think about your birthday party. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a ladybug birthday party?
Ava: I want a princess party!
Me: Or, a butterfly party–that would be great!
Ava: No, a princess party.
Me: What do you mean, a princess party?
Ava: You know, the princesses–Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella and Dora when she was a princess! Yeah, and we could have Boots, too!
Me: A Sleeping Beauty part would be fun, and kind of ironic.
Ava: No, all of the princesses, Mom.
Me: Well, how about a butterfly party?
Ava: Yeah, the princesses could all be holding butterflies!
Me: Well, that’s not exactly what I had in mind. Oh, I know, a puzzle party! You love puzzles.
Ava: Sure, the princesses could be holding butterflies and playing puzzles!
Me: Oh, Ava.
Ava: Oh, honey.

Lori suggested Alice in Wonderland, which we had talked about last year. Ava loves Alice, so we’ll see if that flies. I don’t know why I’m not comfortable with the princess business.
I think Alice is just an animated ‘shroom trip, but somehow it seems better!
