Overheard

Bry: Exactly how many text messages are you sending to Liana? Why don’t you just call her?

Bec (lying, and also, typing): I’m not sending that many.

Bry: You only have 1,500 a month.

Bec (still typing): That’s like 50 a day. I think I’ll be okay. And, aren’t you impressed with my mathematical abilities, by the way?

Bry: Yeah, 50 a day at 15 cents each. Text messaging is such a rip off.

Bec: Someday it will be free.

Bry: It’s free now. It’s called email.

Keep up the texting. It’s such a great way to stay in touch. It’s much cheaper than an airplane ticket or gas for a car-ride. Let’s say we send 20 texts over a conversation once a week (but we always send less than 20): that’s $3 per week and $12 per month. If we lived in the same town, surely we’d waste a lot more than $12 per month meeting for lunch…

Plus, you can respond at your leisure to a text message. If I call, then I often distract you while you are at the grocery store when Ava is trying to buy Little Mermaid press-on nails.

    Ha! Very well said.

Bry just doesn’t get texting. He says, why don’t you just call?

Sometimes (especially with kids around) it’s the only way you can talk without being interrupted. Plus, it just seems so intimate–like a conversation that never ends. Kind of comforting in that respect.
