Today is Katie’s 27th birthday, and I found myself thinking about just how amazing she really is.
One of my favorite stories about Katie involves Teach for America, the endeavor she took on after graduating from college. The first few months were rough to say the least, but Katie’s comment was that “the only thing worse than going back was quitting.” It perfectly illustrated her commitment to finishing everything she starts, not to mention the dedication and hard work she shows for anything that’s remotely important to her.
She’s a fantastic sister and a wonderful aunt to Ava and Olivia.

Happy Birthday, Katie!!!
I don’t have a specific story – all I know is that you are always there to help – Ava and Olivia adore you – that is so evident from the pictures that Rebecca posts – and I always hear such grand ovations about your job performance from your sister, who also adores you! All I can say, is when are you moving back closer to home to be with all of the people in your life who appreciate how special you are!

I like how pretty and smart she is. And modest…she’s very modest. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words. I told someone the other day that I felt bad for people who were the only children in their family because I feel like they were robbed of their future best friend. Thanks for being mine.

I agree with Katie’s mom–where would I begin??? It was so good talking with you today, Katie! Even if you do have a very “forgetful” gramma–we both love and miss you very, very much!!!!! Happy Golden Birthday!!!!!

I was assigned to get the balloons for Ava’s 3rd birthday party. I actually got the right colors and weights to hold them down, despite my maleness. One slight complication is that it was very windy so when I got back to Bry and Bec’s house, the balloons were in a hopeless snarl. Katie calmly unsnarled them and never said I was an idiot. I don’t know about her other qualities but she’s good at unsnarling things.

Thanks, Doug! That is definitely going on my resume.
