We stayed with my good friends Jim and Melissa for part of our trip in Madison. They have two wonderful children and an adorable dog, Badger. Badger seemed relatively sure that there’s nothing sweeter than a baby. He’d start licking Olivia’s hands, but couldn’t stop himself there. Fortunately, Olivia delighted in the very wet kisses.

What a beautiful baby! What a beautiful dog!
A good friend of mine raises Airedale Terriers — I was at his place, sitting on the deck visiting a few years ago after his youngest was born. His boy was sitting on a blanket looking around at everyone when the dog pranced up and started licking the baby’s face. My friend said, “Oh, watch this” as his boy started laughing — and licking the dog back.
Shortly after my friend managed to separate the two, his son stuck his whole arm into my glass of lemonade and came out with an ice cube. I finished my glass anyway. If the dog didn’t mind baby germs, who was I to get snobby?

That is just so funny! And, Olivia seems very happy about it all! So when are you guys going to get a dog???
